Psychotherapy/Counselling
Psychotherapy is a talking therapy which can help with issues such as depression, anxiety, anger, fear, addictions, loss, repetitive, obsessive or compulsive behaviours and eating disorders. Psychotherapy helps you to see how past, and often forgotten events affect your current thinking, feeling and behaviour.
Psychotherapy helps you to understand your inner process, what contributes to symptoms, what the triggers are, and how those symptoms are perpetuated. Psychotherapy helps you to understand and tolerate difficult emotions and work through current problems or past experiences. People come to psychotherapy with many and varied problems to do with life events. People perceive problems differently so it is important to understand the situation from their perspective. Work is client-focussed, helping clients to explore their problems, understand their psychological processes and their interpersonal dynamics.
Counselling can help with particular issues or life events which people may find difficult to deal with on their own. These may include anxiety, anger, stress, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss. You may have talked about these problems with friends, partner or family, but sometimes you need to speak to someone who will be impartial, who will listen to what you say without judgement, prior opinions or interests. Counselling takes account of your underlying needs and helps you sort out what really matters to you.
In Counselling and Psychotherapy you discover:
- the factors that contribute to the person you are, how you feel and think
- about things and how you behave
- how early childhood relationships affect your current relationships
- that it is entirely possible to change negative or destructive patterns
- how to do less of what you don’t like and more of what you do like
- that you can increase energy
- that life can be easier and happier
- you can continue to progress on your own outside and beyond counselling
